Banksy’s Dismaland

Having (unfortunately) grown up in Weston-super-Mare for most of my life, I think the most exciting event to have ever graced our town was T4 on the beach. But this soon changed about a month ago, when Banksy announced he would be hosting his creepy-Disney themed theme park, Dismaland.

People who live in Weston or anyone who has ever had the pleasure to visit our delightful town, will know exactly why Banksy chose Weston-super-Mare to exhibit his work.

Last night we went to check out Banksy’s weird and wonderful mind and we were not disappointed….

As soon as you arrive at Dismaland every single staff member are in dismal character and make it quite clear that you’re not here to have fun. I was told by one “security guard” to wipe the smirk off my face.

As you enter the park it’s quite over-whelming as there is so much to see and do. We decided to check out the castle first.

Inside this wonderful and weird building you expect to be taken on a long tour, but once inside the only thing you see is paparazzi surrounding Cinderella’s carriage which is all in a heap, with the princess hanging out of the window. Princess Diana came to mind when we saw this.

Next stop we watched a rather rude Punch and Judy show and slowly took in the amazing art around us. There is so much going on that I’m sure we missed loads of stuff!

What I love about Banksy is his ability to recognise the obvious. Throughout Dismaland you are introduced to thought-provoking art, left right and center. I’m not going to even try and analyse some of it so I’ll just show you some of my pics and let you interpret the art for yourself!

Overall Dismaland is brilliant and is a great night out if you ever find yourself wandering the streets of Weston (please don’t!)
