Barry’s Bootcamp

So, I thought I was fit. Turns out I was very wrong!

The team at Barry’s Bootcamp invited me down today to review their full body workout with their personal trainer, Jay.

I literally jumped at the chance. I’ve heard lots of things about Barry’s Bootcamp and knew it was a place for the A-list celebs to get their Hollywood body in tip top condition. The likes of Alexa Chung and Ellie Goulding have been spotted training at the London, Central Bootcamp where I visited today. Sadly no celebs were there today but a lot of beautiful models. Yep – be prepared to stare at all the Storm models. Their legs go up to the sky!!

Barry’s Bootcamp is in high demand and is usually a 2-3 month waiting list for those who wish to attend. One class is Ā£20 and lasts for an hour. Monday-Thursday sessions focus on different muscle groups whereas the weekend sessions involve a full body workout. My god did I get a full body workout!!!!

I was greeted by two lovely girls at reception who asked me to fill out a form about myself – health & safety procedures. Standard. After filling that in I was then given a list of delicious protein shakes and smoothies to choose from after my workout. I chose the chocolate, banana, peanut butter and whey protein shake – which was seriously yummy!

I was shown to my locker and the changing rooms and was asked to return to the reception, 5 minutes before the class started.

Once ready to kick some butt – or more like, ready for my butt to be kicked. The doors opened to the workout area which inside had one side of treadmills and the other side weights and a floor section

Our personal trainer Jay quickly introduced himself and us to the equipment but within minutes the music was pumping and we were getting started. I jumped on my allocated treadmill, which I was given by the receptionist on arrival. I started to feel nervous at this point….

So there I was on treadmill 5, and quickly Jay demanded that we whack the speed and the incline up on our machine. We warmed-up for ten minutes and it was fairly intense but little did I know it was going to get a lot harder….

After 15 minutes of sweating on the treadmill, Jay the trainer screamed over the pumping music to change to the weights section. We were only allowed to choose Dumbbells that were either 5kg, 8kg or 10kg. I cheated and chose 4kg.  Jay will never know! šŸ™‚

On the floor and weights section we all did squats, lunges, biceps curls and side-step squats. At this point my heart started to really pump hard, but before I could think about crashing on the floor to die, our fifteen minutes were up and we all had to change back to our allocated treadmill again.

Once on the treadmill we were ordered to up the incline and the speed. We were doing the dreaded hill sprints. At this point I regretted accepting Barry’s invitation and felt so sick. At one point I even dribbled everywhere! Jay told me to sprint faster and I told him to fuck off. It was horrendous! It was at this point I realised that the class had really pushed me. I never work out like that and it was scary to see how unfit I was. This mentally made me push myself even more though. I don’t think I’ve ever sweat as much as I did in this class.

After an hour of running, weights, core and pretty much ruining every muscle in my body we were thankfully finished. We were all asked to lie down and stretch for 5 minutes. I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to sit still. Once the cool down period had finished we were then lead into the cafe area to pick up our delicious smoothies. I think we all deserved it! Everyone looked bloody dreadful!

I would definitely recommend Barry’s Bootcamp – despite the gruelling workout, it was great fun and the trainers are all lovely. Even though I nearly died during the class I felt surprisingly alive and hyper afterwards. I’m definitely going to sleep well tonight. And maybe ache tomorrow….
A huge thank you to Jay and the team for today! X
